Liquid Water Exists on Jupiter's Moon Europa, NASA Confirms

Image
Huge plumes of water have been spurting out of Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons – and it might be the best place in our solar system to find aliens. The shock finding comes from a new look at old data, and has led scientists to confirm that the moon is a leading candidate in our search for alien life. Europa has long been seen as a possible candidate to have extraterrestrial life in our own solar system. But getting to it seemed almost impossible: the planet is thought to be covered in a thick crust of ice that would stop us from reaching the ocean beneath. The new discovery makes it much easier to actually find: the plume means that scientists can “taste” the water on the moon, helping them understand what might be found there. The plume was discovered when scientists realised that a bend in Europa’s magnetic field observed by NASA’s Galileo spacecraft during a 1997 flyby appeared to have been caused by a geyser gushing through its frozen crust from a subsurface ocean, researchers who r...

NASA telescope reveals largest batch of Earth-size, habitable-zone planets around single star

NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope has revealed the first known system of seven Earth-size planets around a single star. Three of these planets are firmly located in the habitable zone, the area around the parent star where a rocky planet is most likely to have liquid water. The discovery sets a new record for greatest number of habitable-zone planets found around a single star outside our solar system. All of these seven planets could have liquid water -- key to life as we know it -- under the right atmospheric conditions, but the chances are highest with the three in the habitable zone. "This discovery could be a significant piece in the puzzle of finding habitable environments, places that are conducive to life," said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of the agency's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. "Answering the question 'are we alone' is a top science priority and finding so many planets like these for the first time in the habitable z...

NASA Got Tired Of Conspiracy Theories And Released Over 14,000 Images From The Apollo Missions

Image
The historic moment, considered a small step for man, and a giant leap for mankind has been cast in the shadows for decades by people who argue and claim, mankind never made it to the moon. Some believe it was nothing but a staged event, created on purpose by the government to keep people in the dark, and to make Russia and other countries jealous. After all, it is one very MASSIVE step taking a man to the moon. The Apollo program was designed to land humans on the Moon and bring them safely back to Earth. Six of the missions (Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17) achieved this goal successfully. Apollo 7 and 9 were Earth orbiting missions to test the Command and Lunar Modules and did not return lunar data. Project Apollo’s goals went beyond landing Americans on the moon and returning them safely to Earth. They included: Establishing the technology to meet other national interests in space. Achieving preeminence in space for the United States. Carrying out a program of scientific explorat...

NASA Scientists Found 'God' 17,000 Light Years Away

Image
Has GOD finally been discovered? Supposedly NASA Scientists believe GOD is 17,000 Light Years Away but is this all true? NASA Scientists were faced with a terrifying image that aimed at a galaxy that was 17,000 light years away. This started the speculation that the supposed Creator of Universe was finally caught on film. The Space Agency's Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array or The NuSTAR was directed towards a pulsar called PSR B1509-58, and it's at an extremely staggering distance from earth. What was sent back was a masquerade of an outstretched hand which has become known as the iconic Hand of God. THE HAND OF GOD.  Scientists believe the hand to be the remnants of a star which went supernova and ejected an enormous cloud of material which left pulsar PSR B1509-58 in its wake. When the remnant cloud was viewed via high energy X-rays, it showed up as a green, red and blue hand, which is about 175 light years across. NuSTAR telescope principal investigator Fiona Harrison s...

NASA's Latest Jupiter Pics Are Awe-Inspiringly Beautiful

Image
NASA's Juno probe has just sent back incredible images from its eighth science flyby of the gas giant. But as if the highly detailed images weren't amazing enough, the space agency has shared the raw files with the public, giving them the chance to process the images. The results are so beautiful that they'll temporarily make you forget about nuclear bombs, hydrogen bombs, and, yes, even climate change. The Juno probe was launched in 2011 and entered Jupiter's orbit in July last year, with the aim of studying the gas giant's mysterious magnetic field, gravity, and polar magnetosphere. Every 53 days, it makes a close flyby of the planet to gather data and take images using its JunoCam instrument, and the most recent images of the eighth flyby (Perijove 8) were released on 5 September 2017. Already, the probe has overturned pretty much everything we knew about the planet - its initial two flybys in 2016 revealed giant cyclones, a super powerful magnetic field, and wei...

NASA Billion Dollar ‘TIME MACHINE’ Will Soon Launch To Begin Search For Alien Life

Image
The telescope, which is worth £6.5billion, has been successfully tested in anticipation of its launch in 2019. Engineers working on the project are confident it will be able to capture starlight in focus and track astronomical targets. The James Webb telescope has been described as a 'time machine' that could help unravel the secrets of our universe. The telescope will be used to look back to the first galaxies born in the early universe more than 13.5billion years ago, and observe the sources of stars, exoplanets, and even the moons and planets of our solar system. When it is launched in 2019, it will be the world's biggest and most powerful telescope, capable of peering back 200 million years after the Big Bang. Mark Voyton, the manager for the Optical Telescope Element and Integrated Science Instrument Module said: "We're extremely elated to be here, especially after the successful completion of our cryovacuum and optical testing of the world's most magnific...

BREAKING: Large Amounts Of Water Found On Mars, And It's Tantalizingly Within Reach

Image
Scientists say they’ve found significant deposits of water ice hiding extremely close to the surface of Mars, a discovery that could be hugely beneficial for future Mars exploration missions. The findings, published in the journal Science, were led by Colin Dundas from the US Geological Survey in Arizona. The discovery was made using the HiRISE (High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment) instrument on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. They found eight mid-latitude locations where escarpments (or scarps), steep banks or cliffs that have been eroded away, had exposed huge cross-sections of ice. In some of the regions, the ice was an astonishing 100 meters (330 feet) thick, and it starts just 1 or 2 meters (3.3 to 6.6 feet) below the surface. What's more, the ice appears to be layered, not too dissimilar to sedimentary layers on Earth. This means the sheets could show us different geological periods in the history of Mars. “This gives us a much more detailed window into the vertical s...

NASA's $1 Billion Jupiter Probe Has Taken Mind-Bending New Photos Of The Gas Giant

Image
NASA's $1 billion Juno spacecraft completed its 10th high-speed trip around Jupiter on December 16. The amazing spacecraft gets relatively close to the biggest gas giant planet of our solar system and takes new photos with its JunoCam instrument roughly every 53 days, while traveling at speeds up to 130,000 mph. It can take days or sometimes weeks to receive the images, but the wait is worth it. The latest batch of photos features countless swirling, hallucinatory clouds and storms. Researchers at NASA and the Southwest Research Institute uploaded the raw image data to their websites in late December. Since then, dozens of people have processed the black-and-white files into gorgeous, calendar-ready color pictures. "As pretty as a planet can get, but get too close and Jupiter will END YOU," Sean Doran, a UK-based graphic artist who regularly processes NASA images, said about the new images in a tweet. These images clearly show the beauty of the gas giant. Here are some of...

Free Science: NASA Just Opened Its Entire Research Library to the Public

Image
NASA is opening up its research library to the public in the newly launched  web database PubSpace …and it’s absolutely free. NASA Chief Scientist Ellen Stofan believes that this move will benefit fellow scientists and engineers and accelerate innovation. “Making our research data easier to access will greatly magnify the impact of our research,” she said. “As scientists and engineers, we work by building upon a foundation laid by others.” From here on out, any NASA-funded research articles in peer-reviewed journals must comply to its new policy. This requires that papers be published and uploaded to the portal within one year of publication so that they are freely accessible to anyone. The only exception is studies that involve patents and material governed by personal privacy, proprietary, or security laws. “At NASA, we are celebrating this opportunity to extend access to our extensive portfolio of scientific and technical publications,” NASA Deputy Administrator Dava Newman says in ...

These Spooky Space Sounds Compiled by NASA Will Make Your Skin Crawl

Image
Just in time for the culmination of this year's spooky season, NASA has debuted a playlist of sounds from space. And even though we know none of it is aliens, those noises are creepy as. From cacophonic plasma waves to eerie Saturn radio emissions and whispers caught off Jupiter's moons, this playlist of space sounds is weird, beautiful, and a little unpleasant at times. Now, these sounds are not actually captured using audio recorders, so we just have to make clear - if you were hanging out in Ganymede's orbit, this is not what you would hear. Instead, it's the output of data from when astronomers convert the readings captured by various space probes and instruments into audible sound waves. Thanks to NASA's Sound Cloud account, we can enjoy them too:Judging from this playlist, the creepiest planet in our Solar System appears to be the gas giant Jupiter and its numerous gigantic moons. For example, some haunting screeching and roaring was produced when Juno crossed...
